Dilly A

by Sherry Byrd - Pedigree Researcher

Dilly A was a bay with blanket and bay spots mare that was foaled April 15, 1952 on the Henry Long ranch at Fort Sumner, New Mexico. This mare was not registered by the Longs, and was later sold with a number of other mares to Fred Kanady of Plainview, Texas. Under the ownership of the Kanadys, Dilly A was registered with the Appaloosa Horse Club as T-542. Her paternal half-sister (sired by Stardust F-50), Miss Plainview, also an unregistered product of the Long ranch and purchased by the Kanadys, was registered as T-543. Both of these mares were "lost Rangerbreds" through their respective dams (Kimethel and Auntie Maude), unregistered Appaloosas from the Henry Long ranch.

The mare Miss Plainview T-543 went on to produce the mare Minnie Wahkhan, who in turn produced:
Rocking K Bright Eye Bubbles (m) 8535,
Rocking K Bright CD 13538 [below]
rockingkbrightcd,
and Rocking K Range-Boss Queen 37157.

This bloodline was quite popular and spread rapidly, although did not have the dispersion factor that some of the other Sundance family lines did. A large concentration of this family remained in Texas, and another large concentration of this family line was later found in California. Pockets of this bloodline were also found in New Mexico, Mississippi, West Virginia, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Minnesota. Currently producing horses of this family line are still found in some of these aforementioned states.

Although Dilly A has only two foals (Little Red Leopard F-3432 and Jagady F-3431) registered in the ApHC Stud Books, these two stallions and their progeny made an enormous impact on the Appaloosa breed.

Little Red Leopard F-3432

littleredleopard

This bay, with blanket and bay spots over loins and hips stallion was foaled March 15, 1955. He was bred an owned by Fred Kanady Sr. of Plainview, Texas. He was the first of two registered foals produced by the mare Dilly A T-542.

His sire is Red Leopard T-541
[Abdull F-849 (unknown parents) x Gray mare],
and his dam is Dilly A T-542
[Stardust F-50 x Cheeka (unknown breeding)]

Little Red Leopard sired:

Jagady F-3431

In this part of the Dilly A article, the second of her registered foals, a son named Jagady F-3431/T-1752 and his progeny will be covered. Jagady, a bay with blanket and bay spots over loins and hips stallion, was foaled May 22, 1956. He was bred and owned by Fred Kanady Sr, of Plainview, Texas. Jagady had a much larger impact on the Appaloosa breed than did his full brother Little Red Leopard and became a name synonymous with bringing home the ribbons at the shows.

His sire is Red Leopard T-541
[Abdull F-849 (unknown parents) x Gray mare],
and his dam is Dilly A T-542
[Stardust F-50 x Cheeka (unknown breeding)]

Jagady sired:

This part will finish with the progeny of Dilly AŐs son Jagady F-3431, particularly his most noted descendant, JagadyŐs Gold 156641, Medallion Winner and a World Champion in get of sire, and sire of Medallion Winners, World and National Champions, ROM earners, and National points earners. JagadyŐs Gold stood for a $2500 stud fee in the 1981 Select Futurity.
This part will also provide a short list of show accomplishments of some horses from this influential family line. This family line has come far from its unregistered roots in New Mexico.
